TOMMY
Directed By Tora Martens

This short documentary film is an inside look into a life of loneliness. Tommy was once a very famous ballet dancer at the Havana Opera. Now retired and HIV positive, Tommy spends all of his time in his home. He seems to enjoy his life even though he seems very alone. He talks about how he cannot trust or love in Cuba because of the way life has become. It is a sad portrait but also one of strength, freedom and courage. Tommy is a hero for living life his way, without apology or excuses. His house is a testament to his life and his freedom of expression. He keeps a childlike joy in his heart but even when surrounded by many people, you can see how alone he truly is. It’s an enjoyable look at a man’s soul. We know him and are scared of becoming him. Still I admire him.
