BLACK SWARM
Directed By David Winning

Black Swarm (a.k.a. Night of the Drones), Directed by David Winning and starring Robert Englund. A homeless man is stung to death by wasps in a small town, and a local pest exterminator is sent in to investigate. Devon, the pest investigator, joins forces with the help of Deputy Sheriff Jane (and her daughter), who have just moved back to the small town of Blackstone after an absence of years. They discover that the town locals are becoming strangely emotionless and, as further attacks occur, they begin to realize that the wasps are actually nesting inside human skulls for a little waspish mind control. The “infected” people become hideous zombie like “bumblers”, covered in boils! Sounds awesome doesn’t it? Ok, sure…I can admit it, I am a fan of insect creature features – although they typically tend to be more humorous than scary, I usually enjoy the creepy crawlies. Bee-lieve me, I enjoyed this film. It was great fun and had everything you could ever want from a movie stinger; swarms, stings, exploding human heads full of wasps, hives, sticky goo, government conspiracies, environmental green sub-texts, unnecessary cheesy character mellow-drama, mad scientists, and…ROBERT ENGLUND – all hail! Black Swarm is a fun, fast-paced and action-filled creature feature, which causes your skin to crawl. Now, granted much of the acting is stiff and unemotional and the plot is a tired, obvious retread, but who cares…did I mention that heads explode and wasps come pouring out!! And, also…RO-BERT, ENG-LUND. Great fun despite its many flaws. I do wonder however if this review is now mute, as I noticed that this movie was picked up by the Sci-fi channel. In fact the “Sci-fi original movie premier of Black Swarm” aired the same night as the awards banquet for the Fight Night Film Fest (Kudos!).
