Regent and Here Media Acquire North American Rights for "Eichmann"
Docudrama based on the interrogation of Adolf Eichmann set for Release This Fall
Regent Releasing and Here Media announced today that they have acquired North American distribution rights to the docudrama "Eichmann." Regent/Here Media acquired the film from UK based production outfit Entertainment Motion Pictures (E-Motion), and will distribute the film in select cities in October of 2009.
"Eichmann" was helmed by BAFTA-nominated director Robert Young ("BloodMonkey," "Bye Bye Harry!") and features international stars Thomas Kretschmann ("Wanted," "Valkyrie") as Adolf Eichmann, Troy Garity ("Winged Creatures," "After the Sunset") as Avner Less, the Jewish officer who interrogates Eichmann and Franka Potente (The "Bourne" franchise, "Che") as Avner's wife. Eichmann was produced by E-Motion's Peter Bevan and Karl Richards whose projects currently include the animated feature "Jackboots on Whitehall" voiced by Ewan MacGregor, Rosamund Pike and Tom Wilkinson, Boston based thriller "The Hatteras", and New York Times bestselling author GP Taylor's children's adventure franchise "Mariah Mundi".
"We are thrilled to bring 'Eichmann' to U.S. audiences this Fall," said Mark Reinhart, General Manager and Executive Vice President Distribution and Acquisitions for Regent/Here Media. "Eichmann represents the kind of powerful and thought-provoking English language world cinema that Regent/Here will be focused on distributing alongside our award-winning foreign language titles."
"Eichmann" marks one of many additions to an impressive slate of award-winning world cinema Regent and Here Media have acquired in recent months. Current and upcoming releases include the Academy Award® winner for Best Foreign Language Film, "Departures," the Cannes Un Certain Regard Jury prize winner "Tokyo Sonata," Iran's Official entry for the 81st Academy Awards®, "The Song of Sparrows," the 2008 Cannes Official Competition entry "Serbis," two-time Annie Award nominee, "$9.99" and "Little Ashes," which focuses on the romance between Salvador Dali and Federico Lorca starring Robert Pattinson ("Twilight") and Javier Beltrán.
"We are delighted that 'Eichmann' is being released in the U.S. by Regent," said Peter Bevan of E-Motion. "Regent's expertise in World Cinema gives this film the perfect platform and we are very pleased that American audiences will have the chance to view this historically important feature."
The story is based on the final confession of Adolf Eichmann, who was known as an architect of Hitler's "final solution" during World War II. Captured by intelligence operatives in Argentina 15 years later, Eichmann recounts events from his past to a young Israeli police officer, Captain Avner Less, who is faced with the monumental task of tricking the consummate manipulator into self-incrimination. As the world waits and Avner's fellow countrymen call for immediate execution, the two men must confront each other in a battle of wills - the result of which will change a nation forever.
The acquisition of "Eichmann" was negotiated by Mark Reinhart for Regent and James Shavick, Kent Walwin and Karl Richards on behalf of E-Motion.
